I would like to be able to define a numbered list with a constant and a
variable component: A2, A2, A3, ... The A is constant, the second character
is variable.

Daniel,

Can you give us an example of the application purpose. My first reaction is
to use two columns in Excel. I assume there are some sort requirements at
some point. Depending on the use, you could use MS-Access and set an
incremental number or lookup code.

Open Excel, Put "A1" in cell A1. Move the mouse cursor to the lower
right corner of the cell and it turns in to a cross. Left click and drag
down the desired number of cells to create your "Auto List" A1, A2 ,A3
