At work I use Excel 97 over an intranet lan,
The lan is fast ( i can download at approx 12 mb/s) but about once a week I
get a problem where the normal cursor changes inti a thin black cross
similar to the cross you get when changing a column or row width.
When the cross has appeared then the application freezes with nor warnings.
ITo get out of it I have to cntrl alt del and the task manager says "
applicationnot responding" and I close it from there losing any unsaved
work.
I have tried different pcs with the same symptoms as have other users
experienced the same.
