My friend is having the following problem with MS Office 2003, and
asked me to post news group queries about it in the hope that someone
can offer some light.

Anyone?

His problem description is as follows:

I think I may have found the problem I am having with Office 2003.
Since I don't use it that much, I didn't associate it with what I
think it is. I think when I installed my 300 Gig HD and used the
software to move over my system and all of it's files, something got
lost or mis-placed. Below is the gist of the trouble report I put it
to Western Digital tonight:

I used the DATA LIFEGUARD TOOLS to setup my new HD and to also
transfer the existing operating system and all the files from my old
80 gig HD to the new 330 gig HD. Everything appeared to have
transferred fine, until I tried using any of the Office 2003
applications. Whenever I select an Office application I get a Windows
installer message box with a message that it is preparing to install,
then another message box appears saying "An error occurred and this
file is no longer functioning properly. Please run Setup and select
Repair to restore the application". At this point most applications
will continue to open, but by this time I have waited at least 3
minutes to open it. Furthermore, if I try doing what they suggested,
it won't recognize any of the Office programs. If I try to uninstall
Office 2003, it won't let me.

Tonight, I booted up from the old HD and MS Office worked just fine.
It appears to me that something got messed up in the transfer of data
from the old HD to the new HD, whether it be something in the registry
or a file on the HD.

I'm hoping you may have come across this problem before and can offer
some suggestions.

Thanks

Jethro
