Absolute field location, Word 2002

On a particular form I have several fields which are on the same line. How
do I set the field locations so that as the fields are filled the rest of
the line will not be forced over to the right?

Place the fields inside the cells of a table (without borders if necessary)
of which the cell dimensions are set to exact figures.
