Absolute positioning of text on a page

Grace L. Judson

Can anyone think of a way to position text on the page so that it WILL NEVER
move ... *without* using text boxes or frames?

When I say, WILL NEVER move, I mean that if someone enters additional text
above the locked-in-place text, the new text will flow around the locked
text, and if, for instance, this is part of a mail-merge document, anything
merged in will not cause the locked text to shift in any way.

I think the only way to do this for sure is with text boxes, and I can't use
text boxes.

Thank you.

Sorry, I don't think it can be done without a text box or frame, unless
you're willing to put it at the top or bottom of the page using the Header
or Footer.

You can position text absolutely using an ADVANCE field, but other text
won't flow around it. The flowing is a result of Word's graphic model, which
constructs the page from objects such as textboxes.

Out of interest, what's the problem with textboxes?

Hi Grace,

I'll concur with Chad. But I'm also curious about why you can't use
text boxes.

This was very helpful. I knew there must be some sort of advance feature, but I wasn't looking in the right place. I couldn't use a text box in my situation because I needed to use a text form field as well.
