abutting objects in Publisher

I want to abut two rectangles but I don't want the common border line they
share to double in thickness. Right now when I snap two rectangles side by
side, the line they share doubles in thickness. I want all the lines when
abutting two objects to be the same weight.

Select a rectangle, click lines, more lines, select the segment you want gone, expand
the color dialog, click no line.

Your advice worker for right-angled objects but is there a way to accomplish
the same thing when you are working with auto shapes, that is, with a
rectangle that has been altered to have rounded corners? When I try to do the
same thing with rounded corners, those preset buttons are gone.

A workaround...
Using Autoshapes draw a bracket, adjust the corner. Fill it with a color if you wish.
Draw a rectangle to abut the bracket, fill it with the same color.

Thank you, that's helpful. Still, I wish you could do it by just dragging
on-screen as you can do in PageMaker.

PageMaker is a $500 product. There are limits to what you can do in Publisher, but if
you are creative you can almost make anything. A rounded rectangle can be
accomplished by copying the shape, copy, paste as a bitmap and use the crop tool to
eliminate the unwanted line. If you want to retain the vector, draw a white line,
place it atop one of the rounded rectangles, group send the group to the back, abut
the second rectangle.
