Accepting only future meetings

Does anyone know how to accept only future occurrences of
recurring meetings? When I accept updates to recurring
meetings, the old meetings are put on my calendar and I
have to go back months and months to delete them so they
don't bog down my space.

I don't believe that recurring meetings with times in the past take up any
more room than a meeting occurring once. It's just a field in the meeting
item and Outlook calculates what days to present the meeting. Recurrences
appearing on the calendar are presentation items only. It doesn't mean that
there are separate entries for each recurrence.
