Accepting tasks on behalf of another user

J

John

We are working with Project Server 2003
One of our team leaders is going on vacation and I want to be able to accept and update the tasks that he assigned to his team members while he is away
How can this be done (except for connecting to the Project Server with the team leader's account)

Hi,

I also need this information, but the link is broken. Can anyone tell what
was described at the link?

Sorry the site is down, we're trying to find it a new home! Meanwhile,
here's the info:

If you want another project manager to take over and manage the
project and receive task updates from team members assigned to a project
because you're changing ownership of the project or because the current
Project Manager is going on vacation, follow the instructions below.

Actions

1. Log into Project Web Access
2. Navigate to the Project Center page
3. Select the project in any column other than the Project Name
column
4. Click the Edit Project Details button
5. Set the new manager as the Owner of the project
6. Click the Save and Close button

Once these steps have been completed, the new project manager will
need to
do the following:

1. Open the project in question
2. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
3. Select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option
4. Click OK

Completing the last four steps will redirect task updates from the
former manager to the new manager for the project.

Great thanks )

Is it necessary to change project owner, or is it sufficient to do the
"Become the manager for these assignments"-trick?

If your transfer is temporary, you'll likely not want to change the owner at
the project level. If your transfer if permanent, you must change this as
well.

Unfortunately, this doesn't completely solve the problem. If any updates
occured after the manager left on vacation; but before the republish process
is completed - the updates will have to wait for the vacationing manager to
return. I haven't found a work-around for this.

Scott:

The work around is to orchestrate the final updates and the republish
process to occur in lock-step with one another. This assumes a certain level
of discipline and training among your PMs.

Mauricio:

The errors indicate the presence of local resources in the project plan that
you're trying to publish. The errors indicate that your system is set to not
allow the creation of new accounts in the system by Project Managers
publishing the project.
