Access 2000 coexisting with Access 97 - import from Excel fail

I have a Access 2000 and Access 97 on the same machine.
Access 2000, when I attempt to import a file from Excel I
get "Import Spreadsheet Wizard" on the message bar and
nothing else happens.

If the workstation has Access 2000 only installed it the
import wizard works fine. I've tried reregistering
msexcl40.dll, but this does not resolve issue.

I need to have both versions installed, so suggestions to
fix will be gratefully received.
