Access 2000 Compact process stalls

I've a corrupted Access 2000 DB and I've tried to repair and compact it
several times. The process takes the normal route, then as it's winding down
and starts compacting the DB, it stalls about half way through the process.

It shows that Microsoft Access is still running, but nothing is being done.
When I close out prematurely, I see the new database name I created and
everything looks fine. However, I go to the corrupted record and the error
message is
"Search key not found in any record". I click OK and it says
"This action will reset the current code in break mode. Do you want to stop
the running code? To halt execution of the program so the module window can
be closed select yes, to leave the code in current state, select no."

I don't know what to do. How can I delect the corrupted record to rebuild it
and leave the database in a repaired and compact and stable state?

I'm not sure if this will help but, can you open a new,
blank database and import the tables from your corrupted
database? (file / get external data / import)

If that works fine then import the rest of the objects
(forms, queries, reports, modules, etc) and fill in with
whatever is still missing. You may need to re-assign
indexes to some of your tables but this should help.

Also, watch out that you don't exceed the maximum size for
a database (2Gb in A2k2).
