Access 2000 vs 2007

Kevin

I am working in a small office configuration (5 employess), and we are all
using one of the Microsoft Server configurations (our IT folks out of LA set
it up, and as you will find from this question, I am not a tech guy).

We have been using an ACCESS program I wrote several years ago on the 2000
version of Access. At one point our office was upgraded to 2003 without
Access, and we kept the 2000 version on our computers and the program rocked
on just fine.

I recently had a computer crash and my new computer was delivered with
Office Professional 2007 - which included Access 2007. However, many, if not
all, of the Macros written in 2000 will not work in 2007. I am the only
person in my office with Access 2007 but eventually it will all be upgraded.

Now my question: Can I install the Access 2000 on my new machine with
Office 2007 without the 2000 installation messing up other 2007 programs
(Word, Excel, Etc.)? I am assuning I would need to unistall Access 2007
before installing Access 2000?

Any help or input would be appreciate.

Thanks,

There are two answers to your question.

Yes, you can have multiple versions of Access installed side-by-side. And,
yes, you should probably install the earlier version first. (Although I've
done it out of order and seem not to have experienced any ill effects). One
important thing is to make sure that you create a new folder for each
version, e.g. Office9, Office12. Also, pay attention to the dialog boxes if
you are asked if you want to remove earlier version, and make sure you
install only the application you need, i.e. Access.

The second answer is really more of another question and that is to wonder
whether this might be an opportunity to convert the macros to VBA in the
2007 version, and see if you can't take advantage of the greater flexibility
and power of VBA.

The macros might work if you put the database in a trusted location.

To do this you will need to click on the Office Button and click options(?).
Sorry can't test on this computer. Try the help function and search for
trusted location.

Hi Kevin.

I also, am running Access 2000 and am considering upgrading to 2010. I was wondering if we could have a conversation on the pros and cons up upgrading.

Is there any way you could call me, toll free, at (877) 599-7447?

I could really use some practical knowledge and insight.

Thanks,
Mark
