Access 2000

We are using Access 2000 on a peer to peer network.
After the administrator compacts the database the other
users can no longer access it on their workstations. The
following message appears: "Microsoft Acess can't find
the database file "\\--". "Make sure you entered the
correct path and file name"

I would appreciate any help you can give me.
