Access 2003 Linked Table Manager Issues

J

Jennifer

We are running multiple versions of Access as well and when I tried this
solution with the registry it still does not work. We are in the midst of a
huge conversion and getting super frustrated with the issues around the
Linked Table Manager. Please help!

Hi, Jennifer.
when I tried this
solution with the registry it still does not work.

Perhaps you could explain what "this solution with the Registry" is? Your
description is so vague that it's difficult to guess the problem you are
experiencing, let along solutions for it. Please explain the "issues" you
are experiencing with the Linked Table Manager Wizard as well.

Sorry I meant to reply below where they are talking about this issue and
resolutions.

It is a reported bug by Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835519&Product=acc2003

Issue: Linked Table Manager in Access 2003 does not show any links when
opened so you are unable to refresh or update the links with this wizard. It
is empty.

Resolutions:
1) Run Regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ACCWIZ.DLL"

2) If that does not work go to the registry and insure that value data is
pointing to the correct Accwiz.dll file in Access 2003

HKCR\TypeLib\{5B87B6F0-17C8-11D0-AD41-00A0C90DC8D9}\8.0\0\win32\(Default)

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ACCWIZ.DLL

***
Both of these resolutions did not work for me. Linked Table Manager is
still empty. Does anyone else have any other resolutions?

Hi, Jennifer.

It could be one of several problems. Things to check for:

1.) Did you reboot the computer after making the change in the Windows
Registry?

2.) Does the user account have sufficient Windows security permissions?
Try logging in as the Windows Administrator and see whether the Linked Table
Manager Wizard works correctly. If it does, then you need to assign the
appropriate Windows security permissions to the user account to use all of
the Access directories and files in order to run Access without hindrance.

3.) You mentioned that your computers also have other versions of Access
installed. Which versions? Access 97 re-registers itself if it's installed
with Access 2000 on the same computer and special steps are not taken to
prevent this from overwriting the Access 2000 settings. I've never
installed Access 2003 on the same computer as another version (too many
headaches trying to figure out how to get Access 97 and 2K to successfully
co-exist), but this might be a "co-existance" problem you are encountering.

4.) You may need to reinstall Access 2003.

Regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ACCWIZ.DLL"

When you try the above...do you get a successful message?

You will get the following message if the above works:

Yes it was successful in registering the dll and I did reboot to ensure it is
using the correct registry settings. I then also rechecked the registry
settings after rebooting and they were still correct so there is no other
version overwritting what I had set according to the bug report outlined by
Microsoft.

I already have full administrator permissions to the computer.

The multiple versions must be maintained for now because this is a very
large corporations and it takes time for migration. But again I checked the
registry settings after rebooting and it was correct.

I will try and reinstall Access 2003 again.

Thanks everyone.
