Access 2003 security warning

W

Walter Ruh

I'm getting the following message when opening an Access
2000 database:
"Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 or later must be
installed to block unsafe expressions without affecting
common functionality."

I have checked out the download center but cannot find a
Service Pack for Jet 4.0 and the latest mdac update
excludes the Jet engine specifically.

Also, I don't want to install a new driver that may
interfere with my concurrent Office 2000 installation.
How can I disable the security warning?

Thanks
Walter

Hi Walter,

We can install Jet 4.0 SP8 to get the Access 2003 warning message; we can
refer to the article to download Jet 4.0 SP8;

Information About Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829558

If you don't want to install Jet SP8, you can follow the instructions on
how to turn on the Jet Sandbox which are documented in the KB article at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;294698.

In general, there should not be any major issues when running Access
2000/2002 in
sandbox mode. This is actually the mode we suggest for Access 2003 and if
you have
a computer with multiple versions installed, they all run the same Jet.
There are a
few specific issues in SP7 that have been discovered and are fixed in SP8.
The most
traumatic issue results in randomly returning #ERROR in a query even though
the
functions being used are safe. This problem goes away if you turn off
SandBoxMode
by changing the registry value to 2.

For more information regarding Jet SandBoxMode, see the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=294698

Please feel free to reply to the threads if you have any questions or
concerns.
