While working in Access 2003 the program closed out and opened by itself.
The program has now created a database_backup.mdb and my original file which
is database.mdb. The backup file size is 6636 kb and the database.mdb is 948
kb. I am not sure exactly which one to use or which one to delete. Any
recomendations?

Hi Sheila,
The program made a backup 1st and then did a Compact and Repair in hopes of
correcting the problem you had. If everything seems as it was then it should
be safe to delete the backup after a few days have passed to make sure
everything is still working.

Great and thank you.
Why is the file size so different in the backup copy. It was much larger
than the original file which is why I was paranoide to delete the backup.
Are you saying that in a couple days the file size in the compact one will
expand to the backup?

The mdb can grow considerably when errors are encountered; also for a variety
of other reasons. It is a good idea to do a Compact and Repair occationally
just to get things cleaned up.
