If i use "officeupdate" to update my office 2003 installation (to install the
SP2), it starts, but near the end, the installation cannot continue and fail.

If i download the whole Office 2003 SP2 (Office2003SP2-KB887616.exe - 103
Mb) , the installation complete succesfully.
All the application works and report SP2, BUT Access 2003, no longer works.
Each time i click on the Access 2003 shortcut, it seems that the
installation of access 2003 restart continuosly . Appear the message like
access is installing but after a few seconds, it disappear. You can continue
to click on the access link and the "setup" restart again but does not
continue....

I have to remove the WHOLE office 2003 and reinstall it again to have
everything work. WITHOUT SP2.

Any ideas ?

Thanks, Leonardo Butelli

I am also experiencing this issue.

I have tried 'Detect/Repair' as well as using the setup program to do a
in-place 're-install' - but I still can't get Access 2003 to start. After it
does it's "Configuration" it adds an Event 11728 to the Application Event log
which states it completed succesfully. I even tried reconfiguring Office by
having it uninstall just Access, and then reinstalling that component - still
no success.

I'm trying to avoid a full remove/reinstall as I have a lot of configuration
changes that I would have to recreate.

I joseph, i'm sorry that also you are experiencing this issue, but unlikely,
we are not alone ..... Some of my customers have this problem too !!!

Regarding the uninstallation of the whole office, i can tell that I've tried
everything but the ONLY way to have the access 2003 back again working
WITHOUT SP2, is to remove the WHOLE office.

We are lucky that Microsoft write the service pack only once in a year
.............

This package can be very "destructive" .................

But ......i'm thinking...did they tried it before putting it in on the web
site ????

They sure did - I was one of the Beta testers.

There are just so many different combinations of hardware and software out
there, that even extensive Beta testing doesn't always detect every possible
problem.
