Access 2007 Beta and Unicode

Is there an easy way of inserting Unicode characters in Access and
Excel in Office 2007 Beta? I know you can cut and paste with Character
Map, but that is a clumsy and slow process.

With Access, the Help says: "If you know the Unicode equivalent of the
character that you want to insert, you can insert a special character
directly into a document without using Character Map. To do so, open
the document and position the cursor where you want the special
character to appear. Then, with NUM LOCK on, hold down ALT while you
press the keys on the numeric keypad to type the Unicode character
value." But this doesn't work for me -- and I don't see how it can,
given that you're told to use the numeric keypad and you can't insert
any of the alphabetic characters from that.

With Excel, Help has: "If you know the character code, you can enter
the code in your document and then press ALT+X to convert it into a
character. For example, press 002A and then press ALT+X to produce *.
The reverse also works. To display the Unicode character code for a
character that is already in your document, place the insertion point
directly after the character and press ALT+X."

This is supposedly the same as in Word. But whereas it work fine in
Word, it doesn't seem to work in Excel.

Am I missing something, or is there really no easy way to insert
Unicode characters?
