Access 95 Database

I have an old access 95 file, the program that uses it was brought back an updated, I was told I could convert my old database to use it. But if I convert it to 2000 or 2002 it won't work. The files used by the program still have the .dat extension but new access files don't have that extension. Does anyone know how I can convert this file but still keep the .dat extension?

Access files have never had a .dat extension but the.dat extension may be an
old Betrieve database that Access could connect to. If the .dat extension is
a current database file, still being written to by other programs, you may
be out of luck since newer versions of Access no longer come with Betrieve
filters.

You may have only 2 options:
1. Convert the data to a newer mdb format.
2. Maintain the application in Access 95.

Conversion always sets the file extension. If you don't like the new file
extension, you can change it back.
