Access 97 "... no valid key for it on this machine"

Bob Watson

I recently updated laptops from a Dell2002 model
to a Dell2005 model. The Dell2002 machine had
Office 2003 on it which was uninstalled. I needed
a copy of Access 97 of which I have a valid, paid-for
MS Disk. I installed it and all the programs work
fine (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc) ... EXCEPT
Access, which gives me this error message:

"Access cannot start because there is no valid key for
it on this machine."

You have any clues to fix this problem?

This Dell2002 is running XP ... the service pack is only
SP 1 - just FYI.

TIA,
Bob

Thanks - worked like a charm ... and that is
just WAY to strange. Wonder what Bill's people
were thinking to cause this?

I have a clue, but no fix. Somebody else will doubtless supply one though.

The Clue: When I was getting that message some years ago, it was something to
do with one of the fonts installed (or not installed...) on the PC in question.
The fix was quick and simple, but I cannot point you to a link.

It is just a fault in the Access95/97 installation routine. It has been 11
years ago since Access95 came out (9 since Access97),...most likely none of
those guys even work there anymore.
