Access 97 on XP won't start: no license found

Hi --

I just installed Access 97 from my Office 97 Pro CD onto my XP machine
which is running Office 2002 but NOT Access 2002. The problem I'm
getting is:

"Microsoft Access can't start because there is no license for it
on this machine."

But I can't seem to get the setup program on the CD to let me register!
Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any idea what I can do?

Common problem, usually caused by, of all things, a font.
