Access 97 & Vista. HELP

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a new PC. Trouble is Vista is standard these
days and I still develop is Access 97. I only want it for home use.

If I install it will it work or will I be wasting money on a new PC?

Please help....

Access 97 will work under Vista, but you need to ensure you're running as
Admistrator.

And depending on the app you might also need to set the Access executable to run
in a "compatibility mode" of a previous version of Windows.

BTW, setting compatibility mode does not help running Access 97 on Windows
Server 2003. (See my previous post.) I have tried all the modes listed. So I
do not believe that "compatibility mode" is a reliable feature on Vista too.
Everyone should be prepared that Access 97 will no longer run on future
versions of Windows :-(

Just because it doesn't run on a server doesn't mean that it won't work on a
client.

However, your comment that it may not run on future versions of Windows is
valid. It's not reasonable to expect Microsoft to work to ensure backwards
compatibility with software that's more than 10 years old.

Thanks guys. Does that mean I can finally get rid of my P3 450 and move onto Vista safely once and for all?

You might try testing to see that it works the way you want.

I've had it running on Windows Terminal Server on Windows 2003. What
problems have people with non-runtime installations?
