Access 97 will not run after complete setup

Office 97 recognizes a successful installation, but then a
dialogue box with a large red "X" prompts the following
message:

This application must be installed to run. Please run
setup from the location where you originally installed the
application.

The same message comes up when excel and word are opened.
The application do not run.

Any suggestions?
