Access 97, XP and 3170 Couldn't find installable ISAM

I have installed Access 97 at least 100 times or more without problem on
W98 and W2000 without any problems.

I have my regular options that I tick, including all the Data and
conversion options.

For the first time I have installed on a new Dell PC with XP SP2 and I
get the above error when trying to import/export files that require the
ISAM routines.

I have un-installed, re-installed, deleted all Access/Office registry
keys I could find at least 5 times in various permutations but to no
avail.

I would go back to W2000 but I think these latest GX620 machines may not
have appropriate drivers.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

See if this link offers some guidance:

Thanks - that did the trick, but not quite as stated.

It advises to un-install the text drivers and re-install.

When Setup was started it showed all the drivers installed, but the tick
for Text (and Excel) were greyed out (could not be removed) and in the
last column, rather than showing the size, as for the other drivers, it
showed the word "Installed".

I wonder why?

So I just removed the MSTEXT35.DLL file from System32 (I think)
directory (dated 1999!) and replaced it with the one from the CD.

This did not help.

Next , I removed the dll completely. This time setup showed the text
driver as un-ticked. I ticked it, finished the install and it worked!

Looks like some old version of the dll was installed and Access
would/could not replace it - maybe this is why the option to allow
removal was greyed out.

Many thanks for the link - I was at the point of giving up and
installing W2000.
