Access and Word files changed

Literally overnight something happened to Access and Word. Can't open files
created with Access 2003 with Access 2003 - shows a window labeled Access
2001 file format. Link to find program online to open files does not work.
I can use Excel to see data but that's it. All Word 2003 files are now
WordPad files. I can open them in Word but will not save as Word file. I
tried "Detect and Repair" but it stops while "gathering information". After
about a minute a window pops up with "msiexec.exe encountered a problem" and
closes followed by a window that says "Windows Installer terminated
prematurely". The only thing I have done is to switch from an HP 1350
printer to an HP 7410. I hooked up the 7410 with no problems the day before
yesterday. Then yesterday the files the above happened. I have spent hours
since trying to fix this. Please help

just uninstall and reinstall ur MS-Office.

I was hoping there was some other solution. The laptop was leased and then I
bought it. I don't think I ever had the Office disc. I'll get my hands on
one somehow. Thanks for your help.
