Access and Word XP?

N

Nick Flandry

I have a copy of Office XP that includes Access XP.

Am I allowed to install Access XP onto one machine and Word XP onto another? In other words, does
the license apply to the Office XP package or to the individual components?

On a related topic... is it feasible to install Word XP on a machine that has Office 2000 already
installed? Can Word XP and Word 2000 run "side by side"?

And perhaps instead of asking if it's feasible I should ask what kind of problems I'm letting myself
in for... :)

Hi, Nick,

Technically, it's possible to run multiple versions of Office applications,
except Outlook. Microsoft doesn't recommend it, but it can be done. It's
usually best to install them to separate directories, and install them in
release order (2000 first, then 2002/XP).

As far as the licensing question goes, I'm not sure, and I don't think I'd
rely on a peer support forum for legal questions. Call 1-800-426-9400,
Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time) and ask to
speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide customers can
use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact
information in their locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free.
