Access closes when table is opened

The file is fine. we only have a problem wit ha certain
computer, which is new installed with Windows XP SP 1and
Office 2000 SP3.

There we can open a file, but as soon as we click on one of
the tables in the file, access is closing automatically.

I am assuming that the file is being run from the network and is split into
a front-end and back-end, with the front-end being on each work station. If
this is not the case, there is no way to compare one machine to another. If
it is, try replacing the front-end file with that from a known good machine.

Try running in Windows Classic mode, although that should not be necessary
on a new machine.

Also, odd as it may seem, try reinstalling the video driver, or even
reseating the video card in a different slot, reinstalling the driver.

Lastly, try changing ports on your hub or switch, and if that still doesn't
help, try changing the computer's NIC card.

thank you for the answer
the machine is a brandnew preinstalled toshiba Tecra S1
(laptop). so it has a build in network and video card. So
no changes possible. Actually we have another one, which is
exactly the same (preinstalled Toshiba Tecra S1 with
windows XP SP1 and Office 2000 pro SP3) and there it works.
That is so strange.
The file is on a server and we just open it from there.
It doesn't make any difference, if I open it from the local
drive.
the hub port is not a problem. It doesn't work whatever lan
cable or port we are using.

Meanwhile I deinstalled Office and installed it again, but
the problem still exists

I installed Office 200 again and the latest Service Pack 3.
I also installed the patches.
I don't know what Jet is and I'm not using it, but the
microsoft update page does not give me any jet update

The Office Update page will automatically locate both the Office and
Jet updates so that's not a problem.

Back to some trouble shooting then.

On the troublesome systems does this happen to every database or just
a few? What if you create a new database on a different system,
create a table and copy that database to the troublesome system?
Does Access also exit on that one?

Hmm, maybe this is a DAO registration problem. Try registering the
DAO dll using regsvr32. For example regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO360.DLL"
