access denied in vista opening word document created in XP

[frustrated with Vista]

I receive "access denied" message when opening a word document created in XP
after upgrading to the full 32 bit verwion of Vista. I can open Word just
not older documents. I have changed the owernership to everone and replace
the owner on subcontainers and objects.
