Access denied to the cube MSP_PORTFOLIO_ANALYZER.

have two users that can not access the OLAP cube data via Project Web Access
and a refreshable Excel export. They are the only users that do this. They
were able to do this last Wednesday and as far as I know nothing has changed
in our environment.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?
----------------------
In Excel they received this message

Microsoft Excel

Access denied to the cube MSP_PORTFOLIO_ANALYZER.

<OK>

I found this on another posting and have asked one of the users to clear the
browser cache and cookies. ---

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies. If that doesn't work, you might
want to check the XP firewall settings after a fresh upgrade of SP2.

Deleting the cookies and browser cache did not resolve the issue.

I am not sure what it means to "to check the XP firewall settings after a
fresh upgrade of SP2." and neither does my IT/Network Support personnel.

So I'm still hoping for other recomendations.

Hi Renee,

I think this is a matter of the users not being granted access to the cubes.

First thing that I would check are the Role permissions in Analysis Services
for the Project Server cubes. The cubes have a different security mechanism
from Project Server so it is possible that the two systems are not aligned.
Typically the security for the cubes is set up when the Project Server system
is installed.

The users Active Directory accounts will either be individually added into
Analysis Services or an Active Directory security group/s will be added. To
check this, log onto the Project Server box and open up Analysis Services.
In Analysis Services right click on the Project Server 'database'. In the
shortcut menu that displays there should be a 'Manage Roles...' item. Click
this to view and edit the role/s that have been set up for Project Server.

Good luck and reply back if this does not solve your problem.

Renee:

A couple things to check:

Did the OLAP Administrator account used in COM+ have a password expire or
otherwise become disabled?
Do you see errors in the application event log corresponding with their
access attempts? How about OLAP generated errors in general?
