Access denied when attempting to transfer .pst data!!

amen

I am in the process of transferring my .pst data from my old computer
(Windows Vista) which is on my external hard drive to my new computer
(Windows 7) and I am using Outlook 2007 on both computers

In Outlook, when I go to import the data using the wizard, I receive a
message that says that "access is denied".

I have used help and it advises me to show hidden folders & files which is
already set up to do that, but nothing changes.

I am already using Outlook on my new computer and I have also tried to copy
& paste the data into the same folder on my new computer where the data is
stored, but if I do this by using the old data, my new data will be deleted.

What am I doing wrong, or what do I have to do to transfer my old data and
still have both Folders and messages show in Outlook from my old & new
computers?

Well you cannot have the data the same in both PC's unless you have an imap
mail account or use third part sync tools

With outlook closed copy the pst, possibly named outlook.pst to media, from
media to Documents folder on new PC, within Outlook on new PC,
File>Open>Data File....browse to and select the pst in the Documents Folder

On the old PC, in Outlook selecting properties of Personal Folders will
reveal name & path of the data file

Take ownership of the old .pst file so you can read from it. Then you can
use the File -> Open menu to open and and copy/drag the old items into your
new message store.
