I have used the ADE to package an application. Works very well.

However, I just rolled out the next update of the package and I had to
uninstall the original package before I could install the update.

Will this be a requirement forever? Is there a work-around - perhaps some
kind of deinstall script?

Dayton,

There should be no uninstall/reinstall. Installing updates should only
replace the database not the Runtime. Perhaps the below by Albert Kallal
