Access format

I am learning Access. Is there a way to center text and numbers in a field
in a table. It left aligns but the textbook that I am using shows the
entries in the field centered. My alignment buttons on the toolbar and
dimmed. I am very confused and would appreciate help

It is highly recommended that all user interaction with records should be
done through forms. Text boxes in forms have a horizontal alignment
property.
