Access is Denied

The last few weeks I get the "Access is denied" message whenever I try to
double click on an attachment included in my incoming e-mail. It doesn't
matter what type of file format it is, I always get the "Access is Denied".

The only way I can view the attachment is to copy to my disk and then go
back and find it and double click on the file name to open it from there. It
is a hassle and inconvenient.

I have decreased my security settings, turned off the Explorer firewall and
virus scanner. This has not helped.

What is going on? Why won't it let me access attachments directly from the
e-mail ?

Thanks all!

Since you didn't mention what version of Outlook you are using, I'll go with
this answer for the latest versions...

The secure temp folder is probably messed up. You can open the registry and
navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security

On the right is a value named:
OutlookSecureTempFolder

It is usually pointing to a folder up under the temporary internet files
location. I tend to create a new folder somewhere else (e.g. under my
profile temp directory) and change this value to the new location. Restart
Outlook and see if I have the same problem.

ps - the 11.0 is for Outlook 2003. 12.0 is Outlook 2007.

I use Outlook 2007 and have the identical problem.

Altering the value for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder did not help.

Yes, I tried that at home last night and did not work. Any other suggestions
or comments ?

So I am still having the problem. I have uninstalled and then re-installed
my Outlook '03 and there is no change. I don't understand why it will not
let me open attachments directly from the e-mail. Any other help out there ?

Nothing in the thread you quoted mentions uninstalling and reinstalling
Outlook, so why would you try that and not follow the instructions you
already saw?

I fixed this issue for one of my customers by deleting his profile and
recreating it; make sure you backup stuff like your favourites and desktop
icons first.

I also tried the same thing of unistalling and reinstalling and nothing else
worked.
