I wish to copy a table (DoCmd.copyObject.........) to a backup
database when I close the current database. Is there any way to
suppress the "The name you entered already exists......." message
without deleteing the existing table first?

Not if a duplicate object exists. You can only use the same name if you've
filled in a destination database (the path and filename)
