Access/Project/Server problem

Project03 Standard
Server03 Standard Edition SP1

I have a process in which Access exports data to Project, opens an mpp
file, and creates Gantt charts. This process has been running in
various forms for years on workstations with no problem.

I have created a standalone version to run unattended as a scheduled
task on a server.

The problem:

1. App runs correctly when launched manually.
2. App runs correctly when launched as scheduled task with user still
logged on.
3. App runs correctly when launched as scheduled task before midnight
with user logged off.
4. App fails when lauched as schedule task after midnight with user
logged off.

The error (same in all cases): Each time Access instructs Project to
open an mpp file -- "#1004: Project cannot open the file." File
permissions are set to full control for all categories of users.

There is nothing in the application or security logs that give a clue
as to what might be going on.

LAN staff is baffled - haven't been able to figure out what happens at
midnight that would change a setting affecting Project's ability to
open a file with no user logged on.

Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

I don't have an answer, but to get support you will probably need to upgrade
Project Server to SP2a and Project Professional to SP2.

Who knows? This might fix the problem!

dunno about all 'classes' of user - you want the system
context, since (as you say) no user is logged on. Since
Access was not designed for use without an interactive
user, it is diffiicult to debug, and you might be better
running it with a user login.

I don't know what you are using to run your scheduled
tasks: if it doesn't allow you specify the user context for
the task, perhaps you should use a different tool.
