Access prompting for a password when it shouldn't

I have an Access database that prompts me for a password when it shouldn't
be. I read some time ago that it may have become corrupt by someone opening
the database with the wrong application. If this is the case, is there a way
to correct or repair the corrupted database?

If the database was opened with Word (which is one way that you could start
getting prompted), there's no way to recover.
