Access to Project Web Access site

Hello,

Here is my situation: On a single server (but a server farm install): The
OS is Windows Server 2008 R2. SQL 2008 and SharePoint Server 2007. I
Installed Project Server 2007 and have applied updates to SP2. All seems to
be going well when I am logged directly on the server doing the Project
Server configuration - EXCEPT no one can access the web pages from outside
the box. The Server shows it is joined to the domain. Users can ping the box
by name and IP. If I give Remote Desktop access, they can log in to the
server fine. But when a user (set up in Project Server as an authenticated
windows user) tries to go the Project Web Access site they are presented with
a Windows Login box (which they shouldn’t get) and even when entering
credentials it doesn’t let them in – blank page with basically access denied.
I’m thinking it might be related to Alternate Access Mapping, but I have
never had to mess with that before when using the Default Web site and no
extranet users. (and I don't know much about that anyway)

Anyway, I’m stuck with a completely configured PWA on SharePoint server and
no one can access it. Could use some help but not sure where in this chain
the problem lies.

Thanks.

Hi David,

Could it be an issue with IE. At the PWA site to the trusted sites in IE.
Also, can users connect to the box using Project Professional (note that
they'll need to be members of the Project Manager's group to do this). Let
us know how you get on.

IIRC, the FIrewall in Windows Server 2008 is on by default. Have you
checked that? If you suspect it's Alternate Access Mappings, I
wouldn't hesitat to try that, just to eliminate it. Just set up the
AAM in WSS Configuration Manager and, when you are done there, update
the Host Header in IIS (Bindings).

Hope this helps,

Thank you both, and here is the current based on your feedback.
It appears that the Windows firewall on the server is indeed on, but it is
on by Group Policy. I will have to contact IT to see about turning it off.
Users can ping the box by name or IP. It isn't client IE settings as they
are able to access another running PWA in the same zone.
Mark - I'm afraid your expertise is a bit beyond me as I ususally don't set
up the servers, just Project Server on an already configured windows server,
so I am unfamiliar with some of your acronyms. IIRC? I tried some AAM after
reading up on it, but not sure what is the right mapping. I am going to try
to get the firewall issue resolved and hopefully this will help.
