Access to published project plan

Phil

Hi

I am setting up a new project and would like all team members (not just the
PM) to have sight(read, write and delete access) of the full project plan
once the PM has created and published it, is this possible and if yes what
access rights do I need to grant people?

Write and delete access infers that they must use Project Professional, so
all must be Project Managers. Multiple people editing one schedule usually
causes chaos and confusing schedules, so question why your people need this.
Typically team members only use Project Web Access to read schedules. Often
PMs themselves are not given delete access.

Hi Rod
We understand your comments re multiple access to editing plans, but we have
a senior stakeholder who is insistent that we understand whether multiple
access is possible at this level. What we have found is that even if we
grant PM access to users, it is the the PM who created the plan to whom all
approvals or plan changes are made - other PMs cannot open the plan in
project professional - they can view through PWA.

Also, something else I'd like to check with you - you make reference to team
members viewing the schedule through PWA - can they view the whole plan in
PWA or just their tasks - our experience is the latter and as we are new to
Project Professional & PWA it would be useful to check.
Many thanks
Gill

The Project Center provides access to a view showing all Tasks. The My Tasks
View just shows your tasks. If the project center does not show all Tasks in
a project you drill down into, then check its permissions.

It seems very strange to allow everyone to edit a schedule as this means
they need Project Professional which is many times more expensive than a PWA
CAL. Team members do not need Project Professional. Everything they need is
typically provided by PEA. They should never need to edit a project (other
than provide updates via PWA and certainly not need to delete projects, so
no need for Project professional at all.

Does it help to restate this as:

You can grant as many people as you like acess to edit any plan
Only one person can check-out read/write a project plan at one time
You can provide anyone access to any information in PWA once you know how to
use the security model.
