Access tried to open an excel file and now it's lost

I tried to import an excel file into access, unsucessfully. Now the file
won't open in excel either - says the extension is corrupt. I've tried
changing the extension with no success. Is my file still somewhere? How can
I get it back?

Why not try Advanced Excel Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ ?
It recovers several important Excel xls files for me and is really
