Access Version 2 Questions

@Goddess

1. Is there any version of Windows Vista that will be able to run
Access Version 2 without third party software?

2. What is the file size limit for an Access 2 .mdb? I have a file
that is now over 50MB. Do I need to be concerned?

Thank you for all informed answers.

A1: Without trying, the only issue I can think of is that Access 2 does not
run on a computer with 1GB or more of RAM, whereas Vista really needs 1GB or
more.

A2: 50MB is not large. Once you get to 500MB, you might will want to think
about how you compact and maintain the file.

Thanks for your response Allen.

Just wanted to let you know that it appears A1 is wrong. I tested
Access 2.0 on several computers with more than 1GB of RAM and it
seemed to install and run properly.

I could find no problems after testing for several days on various
computers each with XP Pro and more than 1GB RAM.

I still have not tested it on Vista, but the RAM itself does not seem
to be an issue.

Wow! Yes, that IS curious!

I notice that article applies to Access 95 and 97. It does not
address Access 2.

But one certainly would not expect Access 2 to work if 95 or 97
doesn't!

All I can say is that my experience has been that it does work! But
of course it is certainly possible that after extensive use some
problems could crop up.

I will say this. I had a problem installing it the first time on one
of the test machines. It locked up. But when I installed it a second
time, there was no problem.

I encountered no other issues.

Unfortunately we have software with a HUGE code base in Access 2. The
cost of updating would be astronomical for us. So we are holding on
as long as possible. It sucks when you have to worry about being able
to run it.
