Help!!!! I'm new to all this. I have Access 97 installed
on my computer but am trying to open an access file on an
office 2000 disc which I have recieved with an "Learning
to use Office 2000" disc. I just get the
message "unrecognised data base
formatR:\Files\Fitness.mbd. Would I need to buy an uprade
package and if so, which one?

I don't think access can open newer file versions, just older ones. So yeah,
you are probably going to need to upgrade.

Access can read *older* versions of databases, but not *newer* ones.
When Access97 was written, the programmers did not know what their
colleagues would be changing three years later!

To open an Access2000 database, you need Access2000 (or 2002 or 2003).
