Is there a way to move the tabs to another side of the control - say
the bottom?

Not with the standard TabControl no.

Thanks ... that makes me feel a bit better - since it means I didn't
miss it...

Do you have one you would suggest that does allow for relocation of
the tabs?

Stephen Lebans has utilities to do "extra" stuff with TabControls on his web
site. I don't recall if tabs on the side is one of them, but if it's
possible it will be on that web site.
