Access95 Out of Memory

I have MS Access 95. It does what I need and I am not interested in
upgrading.

I got a new computer with 1Gb RAM (Windows XP). I installed Access 95 and
it ran fine.
Then I had to do a system recovery that reformatted my hard drive, so I had
to reinstall everything. Now it will not run. I get an "Out of memory"
error which the knowledge base implies is due to having 1Gb RAM and an old
version of Jet. (I don't know why it ran before.) I also have Office 2000
standard installed.

Does anyone know how I can update the Jet without upgrading my Access? I
downloaded and ran "jet35sp3.exe", but am still having the problem.

For what it is worth, I have experienced the same problem and, as you did,
downloaded and installed jet35sp3.exe. Nothing has changed. I also do not
understand what suddenly ended my ability to run Access 95 7.0. I use Access
for only one or two db's and also don't see the need to upgrade.

I also note that there have been no replies to your query but wondered if
you have found a solution in the meantime.

Jet35sp3.exe has nothing to do with Access 95. Jet 3.5x is for Access 97:
Access 95 used Jet 3.0.

Given how old Access 95 is (and the fact that it was probably the worst
version of Access ever released), I suspect there is no fix for the problem,
and that you'll have to upgrade to continue to use Access.

Doug,

Thank you. Despite the information at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=161255 re Access 95 and 97 Standard (near
the bottom of the page), I conclude that you are undoubtedly correct. I wish
that I knew what I had done that made it stop working and when it happened so
I could try and do a system restore. So much for trying to continue the use
of legacy software that meets the need without upgrading to unneeded bells
and whistles!

Yeah, it's yet another poorly written KB article, since it doesn't mention
that option 2 only applies to Access 97.

The "Status" section is accurate: it just fails to link up Jet versions with
Access versions.
