Access95

you can't. there is no "forward" compatibility, only "backward"
compatibility that allows you to work with an *older* version file in a
*newer* version of the software.

if you want to work with an A97 db in A95, you'll have to convert the db to
A95. to simply *view* a report, you might try outputting the A97 report to a
..snp file, and opening that. or try printing the report to PDF, so you can
open it in Adobe Reader.

How can I open a 97 database in 95 or at least view a 97 report in 95?

You cannot open an Access 97 database in Access 95. But, if I remember
correctly, you can't "read an Access 97 report in Access 95" -- what many
tend to think of as "viewing a report" includes generating the report.

If my memory serves me, you could save an Access 97 Report in Snapshot
format, download a Snapshot viewer from Microsoft, and _read_ the report,
whether or not you had any version of Access installed. You could also save
it to one of the non-Access formats (RTF, which can be viewed with Microsoft
Word, or HTML, which could be viewed with Internet Explorer or other
browsers).

I'm sorry I cannot be more _definitive_ but I don't have Access 97 installed
on a machine that I can use just now, so can't open it and make certain that
these features are included (though I believe they are).

If you have one of a number of PDF-generator software packages (they range
in price from free to the cost of Adobe Acrobat, which some might call
"pricey") installed, you could write the Access 97 report to a PDF file, and
use the free Acrobat reader to view it.
