Access97: Not a valid bookmark

A

Sometimes, upon opening a regularly used database on the
network (using my laptop), I receive the error "Not a valid
bookmark".

At the same time, using another PC (a desktop), I do NOT receive the same
error
message, but the database opens normally. After I make some
modification (by just opening and saving an object) and close the
database, it becomes again possible to open the database on the
laptop. Maybe this just changes the file date.

Both PCs run Windows XP and are less than one year old, but I
remember the same events did happen on earlier machines, with Win 2k and
Win95 OS. I do not
understand this behaviour, which I hate to admit ;-).

Can anybody explain this to me?

Thanks in advance,
