access97 record max limit or just 1Gb overall limit?

Just the 1 GByte. See "Specifications" in the online help.
In practice, a 10,000,000 record table is probably getting too big for
routine use in Access; 1,000,000 is practical but you should start
looking at client/server at about that size.
