Accessing access data

Here's a problem. I have a split Access 2000 database. If I only have Access
97 on my PC does it mean I can't access the backend of 2000 database? If not
is it possible to access it with even Word or Excel? I notice that I could
do a mailmerge with Word so it must be possible to link to this data in some
way.

Don't know about accessing the data via Word and Excel.

In my organization, we have dealt with this problem by converting the
backend back to 97. Both 2000 fronts and 97 fronts can then access the 97
backend.

The answer to that probably depends on whether you mean Word/Excel 97
(probably not) or Word/Excel 2000 (yes).

How did you convert it back?

This is the Access 2002 answer:

Open the database in Access, and on the menu of the main Database window,
Tools | Database Utilities | Convert Database | To Access 97 Format.

My recollection is that the particular menu items differ somewhat between
Access versions. One of them, I seem to recall, had "Save as Previous
Version".
