accessing database through VPN

I have setup a VPN connection and when testing it from home or any other
location it is very slow at opening our Access database. As far as I can
tell everything else opens as it should but the database takes forever. I
have it split and am trying to open the front-end. What could be causeing
this and how am I able to improve performance for users when connecting
through a VPN?

Thank You,

Chad

It is highly unlikely that you will be able to get this to perform
satisfactorily. Connecting an Access front-end to an Access back-end
through a VPN is not practicable, the architecture is all wrong. You need
to either (i) use a server database engine such as SQL Server as the back
end or (ii) provide remote access to the application using Terminal Services
(aka thin clients).

Although people are right when they say that generally Access isn't suited
for low bandwidth networks like VPN, I was able to achieve decent
performance for small mdbs by turning off the "Track Name AutoCorrect Info"
setting for the mdbs. Access still starts up kinda slow, but at least now it
doesn't take 10 minutes to open a table.

So where I can see how to set up the TS for users using VPN? Is it easy?

Thanks,
