Accessing network share documents

K

Kalyan

Hello all,

In my organization, several documents are hosted on IT managed network shares and these file servers reside all around the world.

Whenever I try to open office documents (Project 2003 files take the longest), they take a lot of time to open. And there are some for whom the experience is as if the files were local.

I run windows XP sp2, Office 2003 with all latest updates to both. Tried turning off reading icon information by explorer and all other helpful ideas. But still I have this very nagging problem. I have a few (10-12) shares mapped if it makes any difference.

I turned off sutosave and also asked word to make local copy when opening remote files. Still it didnt make much difference. Any ideas?

regards,
K

I haven't got Office 2003 but on Office 2000 to install MS Ptoto Editor:
Insert the Office CD disc> keep clicking next until you get to Customise>
select it, go to 'Office Tools' and Sselect MS Photo Editor
It may be the same for Office 2003 but I dunno

Photo Editor is not in Office 2003.

Milly,
MS probably thought it wasn't used enough to include it in 2003.
I dunno if it would work if 'PHOTOED.EXE' was copied from 2000 to your HD
Someone with a bit more know how may be able to tell you if it would work.

I know how to install prior version software - and I don't need it. I use a
third party application for my photos.

Brilliant answer and you win the prize of answering with irrelevancy. Can you tell us to whom and to what exactly you were answering to. I would love to hear that.

Kalyan,
I use WindowsXP SP2 with Word 2000.
As Photo Editor works fine with this setup I thought my suggestion may have
been
valid
