So there is no way that I can run the applications off my desktop where it is
installed from my laptop? Can I purchase another license only or would I have
to buy the entire office package again? Thanks

If you buy the entire package from a discount place such as NewEgg or Amazon
it may actually cost less than buying an additional license from Microsoft.

Look at your EULA - many versions of Office allow you to install on a Laptop
AND a Desktop - as long as you are not using both at the same time.......
