Accidentally deleted basic toolbar while customizing toolbar

H

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

I accidentally deleted the items in the basic toolbar while creating a custom toolbar. Now all that shows up is Word and Work, all the other items are gone. How do I ge them back?

You can fix it in the same place where you broke it :)- Customize Toolbars
& Menus - Toolbars page. Select the name of the Menu Bar then click the
Reset button.

As an alternative you can go to the Commands page, select Built-In Menus
from the Categories list, then drag each of the "missing menus" to the proxy
menu bar.

I can't get to the place where I broke it. The commands in the very top bar are gone. All that's left are the Apple, Word and Work. I don't know how to get to the Commands page or the Toolbars page at this point.

Control+Click a toolbar & choose Customize Toolbars & Menus ...

I appreciate your help, but I'm still having problems. I have no toolbars up, except the very top bar (the one that used to have File and View and all that stuff on it)and all that bar has on it now is Word and Work. I don't know how to get to where the toolbars are stored. I tried Control+Clicking on the top bar but nothing happened.

I'm not even gonna ask how you managed to rip all guts out of the program
without realizing it as it happened, but you might want to look into
patenting the substance if you have any left over :) Now you're going to
have to do it this way...

Quit Word, then go to: User/Library/Preferences

Move the file named: com.microsoft.word.plist to your Desktop.

When you launch Word you should find all the default menus & toolbars
restored. You can then delete the file you moved to the Desktop.

Once you get it all back, the next customization I'd suggest you do is to
assign a keyboard shortcut to the ToolsCustomize command so you can get back
into the house the next time you lock yourself out :)

Nope, still nothing but Work and Word. I feel really stupid, this is the first time I've screwed something up this bad.

Well, there are only two other ideas I can suggest - if 1 doesn't work I'm
afraid 2 is all that's left:

1- Quit all Office apps & remove the same .plist file as well as the
Normal.dotm template [User/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User
Templates].

2- Remove & reinstall Word, apply updates, repair permissions & restart the
Mac as described here:

Thanks. There were no Microsoft files in the location you suggested for some reason. I guess I'll reinstall. I was hoping to avoid that because I have to get my boss to find the software. There's no disc in the office that has it on it. I appreciate your suggestions, though.

I have one slight bone to pick. Hal Bob just happened to end up the
being Trigger Point.

I read *many* News post on Several different Servers. On other servers
people would not be quite as nice as they are on this News Server.

Would it hurt much if you could quote your original post and the answer
that helped before posting just a thank you. So that others will know
what you are posting a Thank you about.

Because I read so many post, I have my news readers (either SeaMonkey or
Thunderbird) set to not keep any header info other than the current day.
so the next day there are no read messages when I when I open up a group
to read. So I can't go back and refresh my itty bitty memory ( :) ) by
click choosing all and clicking on the message to see the thread.

In any event I am not really picking on any one particular individual.

Just making a request. And of course it can be taken worth a grain of
salt. But it would be nice. :-(
Glad to hear it - thanks for the confirmation!

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!
